I was disappointed in my first pair of La Canadienne’s. After deciding to spring for them, I was surprised to discover that they lacked padding in the footbed. Additionally, the leather upper, while indeed plush and lovely, is constructed in such a way that it comes down over the toe of the boot almost to the ground before joining the sole. Because of this, the leather would wear there, so they wouldn’t last long enough to be re-soled.
Really wanted these to work because it’s hard to find simple black boots without adornment of any kind. I’d planned to dress them up and wear them with skirts or dress them down and wear them with jeans, but they’re just not comfy and the uppers would wear near the ground. I’m going to return these and get the Timberland Atlantic Heights Tall or the Clark’s Malia Skylar. Although those don’t come in narrow as do the La Canadienne’s, they’re more comfortable, they’re constructed for durability, and they’re half as expensive. If you don’t mind buying a new pair of black boots every few years and don’t mind not having much padding in the footbed, these La Canadienne’s ARE beautiful. Alas, not the right boots for me.

I love the look and feel of the leather but it was too tight around the calf. No way to have gotten even pantyhose tucked into this sucker! FYI: My calves are 14.5″ around.

I love the look of these boots. They look great with with a skirt or skinny jeans. Unfortunately, I am returning them because after a couple of hours of standing or walking my feet were killing me. There is no cushion. I am very disappointed. I have bought a few pairs of La Canadienne and they have all been so comfortable. Style and comfort are the main reason that I pay up for the brand but this time they did not come through.

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE!! I’m 5’2” with very wide calves and these would not zip at first.
Luckily there is a stretching hack I always use to make my wide calves fit boots. They have to be REAL leather and just rub Rubbing Alcohol right into the leather where you need it stretched. Put on boot up to where it needs to stretch. Try again and repeat until they zip up!! You’re welcome ??
Does not effect the look or feel of leather.
These boots are the most comfy I’ve ever worn and look amazing!! The squarish toe slims the look of my wide feet and calves and leaves more room in the toe bed so no tie squishing! The shaft hits way below the knee bend which is a plus for being 5’2” with short, thick legs. The leather inside feels like the softest, finest leather inside-like butter when you get them on! The look is so stylish and will go great with skirts, jeans, dress pants, dresses. Everything! I have FINALLY found the perfect boot for my body size!! I plan on wearing these for 8-10 hours working my Retail job over the holidays!

It’s hard to find boots with wide width that are not too loose in calf. These fit perfectly. Style is conservative. Quality appears good.

So beautiful and comfortable. I did ballet and now run so I have large calves. These are tight on my calves but I plan to take to a cobbler to stretch out a little. At least I was able to zip them all the way, even over jeans – a first for me. I sensed that the zipper is very strong and well made.

Very comfortable especially with a square toe. Fits true to size. This is a clean boot. No embellishments. I bought the suede. The heel does not have suede on it. The calf was/is a little snug, but with wearing them just sitting around they stretch fine.
I’m 5’7″ and I wish they were a little taller, but I’m keeping them. I do like knee high boots almost to the knee but most boot makers don’t make them that way unless they’re “over the knee.”

These boots are incredible. I have the 8WW. The toe box is wide enough for my duck feet but the heel is still nice and snug. I have thin to average calves and they zip up perfectly. This is my second pair. They are soft, comfortable, and look great. I wore the first pair to work almost every day for 5 years before they gave out (had them reheeled once). They are pricey but you get your money’s worth out of these.

I own four pairs of La Canadienne boots, including the Jennifer style. They have always been great for work in winter. They really do keep your feet dry while looking very nice. Despite being expensive, I have a very narrow foot and these are some of the few boots that I can find that fit. I ordered a 7.5N and 8 in this style but I was very disappointed with what arrived. One style is a Jennifer and a completely different boot came in a Jennifer box. With the one boot, the zipper is broken and will not zip all the way. On the second boot, the non-Jennifer in the Jennifer box, on the sole under La Canadienne where “Waterproof” is imprinted, it is actually scratched off on both boots. This is very strange. Also, there is no La Canadienne tag sewn inside the boot itself as with all of my other boots. I wonder if this might be a counterfeit boot. I am returning both. I noticed on the La Canadienne website that they no longer carry narrow sizes so I may try to order a replacement here nonetheless.

I’ve been looking for 2 years for a boot that didn’t hit me in the middle of my knee! This is it…and its comfortable. I do wish the heel was a bit higher but everything else was perfect. Keeping this pair & buying a backup.
Tammy –
This boot is ultra comfortable! I wore them to work for 12 hours and never had a pain. I’m on my feet all day as a flight attendant. It could use a little more padding in the footbed, but overall an excellent boot!

As someone with wide forefeet, narrow heels, and muscular calves, I have experienced a great many shoe and boot disappointments in my life: at this point they are expected, rather a foregone conclusion when trying on a pair of shoes. Despite all that experience, I nearly cried when I couldn’t get the left boot zipped all the way. These boots are stunningly beautiful and an excellent example of craftsmanship; every seam was perfect, the leather was supple and beautiful, the foot of the boot beautifully constructed (and fit both my forefoot and heel!), but the boot shaft was just a bit too narrow, though the ankles seemed very roomy. If La Canadienne ever releases a wide-calf version of this boot I will definitely be purchasing it again. (For sizing, my calves measure 15 1/2 and 15 1/2, left-right)

I ordered the Jennifer after buying and loving the Helene from this brand. I can’t say enough about the quality of these boots . . . the leather is beautiful, soft, but thick enough to stand up to real winter wear. The support is great and they are comfortable. The only reason I’m returning is that the heel is just too high for most of my dress slacks. I’m so impressed with this brand, I’m going to purchase the lower heeled Passion as soon as I get this return done. They are expensive, but well worth it. I’ve read other reviews from customers who rave about this brand, saying the boots last for years, and I believe it!
Rhonda –
Unlike other reviews I found these to be right on track for size. I love the styling. Having very skinny legs it’s hard for me to find boots that don’t slouch. These do not and fit me very snug on the calf. Great for skinny legged women however if your calfs are bigger or muscular this may be a problem.
Deborah –
So, loved the look, not confident about the fit for all-day wear. (Loved the Passion model but heels just too high for an elderly lady.) Wore these around the house for literally weeks before I finally wore them on the street, than all day to the office. Then regretful that I waited so long because I love them, even in the rain. At first they left some black residue on my legs but no longer after broken in. Pricey but I hope to wear these for years to come. Thank you Zappos.

I loved this expensive boot great fit, but the right heel squeaked every time I stepped down. That is too annyoying for any boot but not at $500
Teri –
They fit well. Haven’t worn these yet. I will wear around house first. They are very plain, no buckles or snaps or what have you. The toebox is generous.

Loved this boot but am between sizes in this brand, 9N was too short and 9.5N too long.
Anonymous –
The boots are stylish and well made. The heels are higher than I’m used to which may limit how much I wear them as I tend to walk a lot. The fit was perfect but I ordered up a half size.

Love love love La Canadinne, even through they are pricey the quality is outstanding along with the comfort and the fact that they keep my feet dry and warm with only wearing stockings is amazing as I live in an area that gets an average of 100 inches of snow every year.
Patti –
These boots are just lovely! No break-in time, just immediate foot hugging ease! Highly recommend these. Got lots of compliments on them. ??????????
Cynthia –
Oh my gosh! These are amazing and worth every penny! They are truly a luxury item but are totally worth it! Just buy them!

My favorite suede boot that looks great with skirts and dresses! Fitted but not too tight. Moderate heel and good width. Beautiful suede. Classic. I’ve tried several styles and other brands, and I’m very happy I found these boots!
Patti –
These were an (expensive!) gift for my daughter, who lives in a very rainy climate and Wow! were they worth it! They’ve performed admirably through rain, ice, and snow. She said they are incredibly comfortable, go with everything, and hardly show a sign of wear. Good purchase!
Cindy –
Perfect sizing for my short legs! I usually have to go to my cobbler to adjust the shaft. So many compliments. I know they are expensive but with the clean lines, this is a classy addition to my fall boot wardrobe!
